Cable Modem Control
Direct Cable Modem Authorization Now Available
Great Lakes Data Systems has announced immediate availability of its newest direct cable modem authorization solution. With the installation of one additional software component to the GLDS SuperController®, cable modems can be directly controlled from the WinCable® billing/subscriber management system.
The first end-to-end testing was done with the cooperation and assistance of Coresma. “All functionality was successfully signed off on a live hardware platform,” according to Kevin Graese, who operated cable modems systems and worked for the ISP Channel prior to joining Great Lakes Data Systems as an addressable engineer. “The interface has now been installed for other cable modem makes and models, and is compatible with any DOCSIS-compliant cable modems,” Graese noted.
WinCable® system users are able to create any number of user-defined cable modem configuration files, specifying bandwidth and other modem performance characteristics. CSR’s can assign any selected “package” directly to the cable modem, in a manner similar to the way addressable set-tops and smart cards are controlled. The GLDS interface uses a proprietary tftp protocol to send the appropriate configuration file to the cable modem.
Cable modems can also be selectively disabled directly from the billing system, based on user-selected criteria such as account balance, non-payment or delinquency. The WinCable® billing and subscriber management application handles automatic pro-rates, recurring monthly billing, and cable modem authorization with a single transaction. |
