Great Lakes’ WinCable^â Successfully  Integrated with N2 Broadband VOD

Carlsbad, CA  (April 27, 2004) – Great Lakes Data Systems, Inc., announced today that it has successfully deployed VOD services integrated with N2 Broadband’s OpenStream digital platform. 

Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations, a municipal service in Massachusetts, will provide VOD to its approximately 12,000 subscribers on their Scientific-Atlanta-based network, serving 85% of the homes in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.  Broadbus Technologies’ B-1™ video server, which is fully integrated with OpenStream, was also deployed as an integral part of this VOD launch.  GLDS successfully completed the real-time billing system integration for N2 Broadband’s OpenStream.   

Shrewsbury Cable is the first to take advantage of OpenStream’s “Any stream, Anywhere™” capabilities that leverage Scientific-Atlanta’s GQAM, giving them a completely "switched network." This means that any VOD stream can be switched to any service group on their network.

Thomas R Josie, general manager for Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations commented, “This “switched network” flexibility will help us save money - both capital and operational expenses - by optimizing the utilization of our streaming capacity among all of our service groups. Additionally, the OpenStream platform will allow us to get to market quickly with our VOD service by eliminating integration and interoperability concerns.”
